While looking at the “Discovering Tea” blog this morning, I came across something I’d never heard of: a Burmese tradition of eating fermented pickled tea leaves!
“A Different Way of Enjoying Tea” at Discovering Tea.
Some brief research around the web turns up the name of this dish: lahpet. Apparently this is unique to Burma/Myanmar, and is a national delicacy. The most popular version is lahpet thohk. Wikipedia says that a version is also eaten in Northern Thailand, and called yam miang there.
This is the same type of pickling that sauerkraut undergoes, so I’m indeed fascinated.
