Our laws really need to catch up to the times (or even the times 25 years ago), and stop blaming people for using systems the way they are set up. TechDirt has a great write-up of recent pertinent cases. My summary is:
- Aaron Swartz = He did something that was allowed, and should be legal under our copyright laws, but he did it “too much” so the government wanted to lock him up for decades.
- Andrew Auernheimer = Blaming someone for finding a security hole is like throwing all your business papers out an open window onto the sidewalk, and then locking up anyone who happens by, reads them, and tells others.
