There is not a great deal of information out there on this, but it seems that Samsung has introduced bugs in their audio codec on some devices with the Android 4.4.2 update. In a previous post on getting around NPR’s rotten app, I suggested using rplayer to input live radio station addresses. After updating my Note 2, this ceased to work. In fact, most streaming radio station apps stopped functioning.
After some research, it appears to be Samsung’s fault. The solution? Find an app that has its own codec built in. Even though the app is still a beta, VLC for Android works beautifully, just as VLC for desktop always has! See the screenshot on the right, for steps for adding a radio station to VLC.
